PP: "Pedro López does not respond to 5 official requirements to eliminate contaminated soils in La Unión" (29/11/2019)

The General Directorate of the Environment of the Autonomous Community has sent the mayor 3 requirements in 2018 and 2 in 2019 to eliminate the soils contaminated by mining in the educational centers of our municipality and have not yet been attended by López Milan, with the serious risk that this implies for the health of the students.

All unions know that we live in mining territory and that our Sierra contains traces of heavy metals derived from the mining industry.

A few years ago, a series of studies were carried out on how this contamination could affect the population and it was found that a specific area of the municipality, specifically the one closest to the site of El Descargador, was contaminated soils and a solution had to be put immediately, very specifically on the plots of the Enrique Viviente special education school and the Sierra Minera Institute.

In the Institute, which is owned by the Ministry of Education, the regional administration urgently set out to work to solve the problem, for which it first conducted a risk study, and subsequently drafted and executed a project with the problem corrected.

However, at Enrique Viviente School, owned by the City Council of La Unión, Mayor Pedro López Milan has not put any remedy or solution after two years, despite the risk that all students, teachers, monitors and other users of the center.

And all this despite the 5 requirements he has received explaining what he should do and those he has not even answered.

For all this, from the Popular Party of La Unión we demand explanations of the reason for their silence, their inactivity and their concealment of this situation.

We already knew that we had a nefarious mayor, but we could not imagine that he would be able to get to play with the health of the most vulnerable in his town, leaving them to their fate in this painful way.

In this sense, our spokeswoman, Sofia Manrubia, demands that López Milan not blame others, as he always does, nor hide behind the technicians saying that he doesn't know anything, as he also likes to do, and that he assumes once and for all his responsibilities as mayor, immediately getting to work and fixing the problem.

The health of many people is at stake.
