The works of regeneration and environmental adaptation of the bay of Portman, in La Union, "advance at a good pace with the construction of the three rafts, which will welcome the two million cubic meters of barren that today there is this natural site "Said the Minister of the Presidency and Development, Pedro Rivera.

The Minister and the Director of Coastal and Marine Sustainability of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment, Raquel Orts, visited the works that take place in Portman Bay today, which they also attended The Government delegate in the Region of Murcia, Antonio Sánchez-Solís, and the Mayor of La Unión, Pedro López, among others.

The regeneration of Portman, which will materialize with a thorough work of execution of 46 months, is meeting the deadlines set in the planning of the work of the project, which has a state investment of more than 32 million euros and will involve 200 posts Of direct and indirect work.

Follow-up of the Works

Following the visit, the meeting of the Monitoring Commission of the Portman Bay Recovery Works was held in Cartagena to report on the evolution of the projects carried out so far and the planning of the next actions.

At the moment the first phase of the project is being carried out, which consists in the construction of the three rafts that will receive the dredged material of the bay for its drying and later transfer to the final point of pouring in the quarry of San José, where it will be deposited and Will seal

These enclosures, which will be waterproofed, are necessary for the drying process taking into account that the dredged material consists of 75 percent water and 25 percent sand.

Specifically, one of the three rafts is finished and work is underway on the construction of the other two.

Once completed, it will proceed to the removal of about two million cubic meters of barren, the regeneration of the new beach line reusing current materials and the contribution of limestone crushing to improve its granulometry.

These works will allow to recover about 250 meters towards the sea from the coastline, which was altered due to the dumping activity for decades and which, at present, is located 550 meters from the original and has a depth of about four Meters.
