The First International Conference on Cantes Flamenco Miners will begin tomorrow in La Union (01/06/2010)

The Mayor of La Union and President of the International Festival of Cante de Las Minas, Francisco Barnabas, and the Minister of Universities, Business and Research, Salvador Marín, will open tomorrow at the First International Conference on Cantes Flamenco Miners who held in the Auditorium of the City of La Union (Pinion House Building), from 2 to 4 June.

After the official opening will be time for the inaugural conference which will be run by Jose Blas Vega, one of the leading researchers of flamenco.

The rigorous documentation and synthesis, with a major work of historical clarification, are the basic features of their research work and communication.

With more than twenty publications to his credit, one of the indisputable reference of his work is the monumental "Illustrated Encyclopedic Dictionary of Flamenco."

In addition to the presentations, audiovisual presentations and panel discussions will be headlined by the most prestigious specialists and researchers in the field, flamenco recitals were held by three winners of the Mining Lamp, Rocío Segura, Gema Jiménez and Encarnación Fernández, and will visit the Mining Museum, the Old Public Market and Mining Park of La Union.

It is recalled that the singer Juan Peña Fernández "El Lebrijano" and guitarist Carlos Cartagena Piñana, Bordon Minero del Cante de Las Minas in 1996, will be responsible for providing the closing conference.

The First International Conference on Cantes Flamenco Miners, framed in the training offered by the University of Murcia in its summer courses at the Universidad Internacional del Mar, analyze, from a theoretical - practical, origin, training and the evolution of mining songs, and their links with the Festival Internacional del Cante de Las Minas.

The objective of the conference is to promote and stimulate knowledge and study of miners singing in the university community and flamenco fans in general, enhance and dignify in academic one of the greatest exponents of the cultural heritage of the Region of Murcia as are the songs mine; further research, debate and confrontation among experts in this branch of Flemish art, and support the celebration of the 50th International Festival of Cante de las Minas.

The venue of the Congress, co-organized by the Universidad Internacional del Mar and the Foundation Cante de Las Minas, will be the hall of the House of the pinion and its duration is 30 hours.

The Congress will provide the use of free credits for university students enrolled.
