Cerdá delivered to the City of La Union with an eco-park for separate collection (03/06/2010)

The Minister of Agriculture and Water, Antonio Cerdá, today presented the City of La Union with an eco-park or fair point that the Ministry has built in the municipality for municipal waste collection and special home recoverable house.

Cerda said that this infrastructure will benefit over 16,000 inhabitants that has this town and adds to Ecoparks Regional Network, which has so far with 39 facilities to improve waste management. "

The eco-park of La Union is located in the area of Los Cobacho on municipally owned land, covering an area of 1,685 m2 and has involved an investment of 192,700 euros, financed by the Cohesion Fund of the European Union.

It consists of a modular set of buildings that host four types of facilities: access control booth, storage of hazardous waste, solid waste storage, no special or bulky and Environmental Education Workshop, warehouse maintenance and toilets.

It also has green areas and parking systems, wastewater treatment and solar panels.

The counselor said that the municipal parks and recycling points play a role in the collection of waste house of origin, such as small and large appliances, batteries, motor oils and vegetables, clothing and footwear, paper and cardboard, trimmings, fluorescent tubes and films, among others.

These wastes, Cerda said, "are temporarily stored to be subsequently transferred to sorting plants where they are separated, recovered and recycled materials to use and then return only non-recyclable fractions carried landfill."

The manager stressed that regional eco-parks "can be used by individuals, businesses, offices and services whose production of waste, by its nature or composition, is similar to those produced in private homes."

Nevertheless, he said, "do not allow waste from industrial activities."

He also stressed the informative work and environmental education that takes place in these facilities, "through a specific classroom in which presentations are made or are courses devoted to promoting the use of municipal parks and recycling of waste city in general. "

Once the delivery of eco-park, the City is committed to its implementation within three months and to finance the costs of their upkeep and maintenance.

For its part, the general direction of Planning, Evaluation and Environmental Control controls eventually be 'in situ' to ensure that their use is appropriate.
