In the plenary session of the La Unión City Council, held last Thursday at the express proposal of the Municipal People's Group, in order to debate its motion that the 60th edition of the Festival be held, the PSOE again used its absolute majority to flatly inadmissible and without real explanation this motion.
It did have the support of the Citizens Group, leaving the PSOE as the only group against this proposal that is in line with the rest of the country's festivals.The proposal was for the open-air festival to be held in Plaza Joaquín Costa, with the facade of the Cathedral of Cante as a portico, keeping the appropriate sanitary measures.This proposal has been agreed upon with the association Unión flamenca, which brings together practically all flamenco artists from all disciplines, who considered it opportune and desirable that the solo singing and guitar contests be held.The culture sector has been severely hit by this crisis and with this refusal, Cante de las Minas loses the opportunity to show itself as a symbol that does not give up, in addition to being a dynamic agent of the local economy.A large part of the music and theater festivals of a category comparable to the mining festival are scheduling their performances adapting to the new reality, so once again, since the PSOE has governed, La Unión is left behind.
