The Ministry of Tourism, Youth and Sports of the Region of Murcia approves a direct aid of 47,000 euros for the repair of the scene of the Old Public Market of La Unión.The investment is in addition to the more than 200,000 euros that the Government of Spain will allocate for the repair of the roof of the building, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest.The Ministry of Tourism, Youth and Sports has approved a direct aid of 47,000 euros to the City Council of La Unión to collaborate with the repair costs of the Public Market stage, headquarters of the International Festival of Cante de las Minas, coinciding with the sixtieth edition that will be held in 2021.The mayor of La Unión and executive president of the Cante de las Minas Foundation, Pedro López Milan, has expressed his gratitude to the Minister of Tourism, Youth and Sports, Mrs.
María Cristina Sánchez López, as well as the general director of Infrastructures of Tourism, Ms.
María Esther Tenza Pérez, for her involvement with this project, written by the municipal architect, Ms.
Sonia Hernández.Likewise, Pedro López Milan also wanted to thank the work of the councilors of the municipal government team, as well as the work and support of the councilors of the municipal group of Citizens in the City Council of La Unión.On the other hand, the Government of Spain has consolidated in its budget the amount of 212,825.56 euros for the financial year 2020, an amount that the City Council of La Unión will receive through the Grants called Cultural 1.5 Program and that are intended for conservation of the historical heritage of Spain.
On November 10, the Minister of Public Works, José Luis Ábalos, issued a final resolution approving the request of the City Council of La Unión to carry out urgent works to stop the constructive and functional deterioration of the Old Public Market.The Old Public Market is the headquarters of the International Festival of Cante de las Minas since 1978, being one of the great works built in the Region of Murcia according to the demands of new materials - iron and glass - in its incorporation into the regional modernist trend.
