The Community has recently expanded the concert with the socio-health center 'Cristo de los Mineros' for 30 people for people with chronic mental illness, so that the total number of places financed in this center through the Murcia Social Action Institute (IMAS) reaches 90, for an amount of 1,792,000 euros.

This was stated by the Minister of Family and Equal Opportunities, Violante Tomás, who visited the center today with the general director of the Diagrama Foundation, Rafael Pérez.

According to Tomás Violante, "the attention to people with disabilities is one of the priorities of the regional government, and throughout this term a total of 461 residential care centers, a day center and the promotion of autonomy have been created. which 224 correspond to people with intellectual disabilities, 195 to people with chronic mental illness and 42 to people with physical disabilities ".

Currently, 4,036 places have been reached in the centers for people with disabilities and people with chronic mental illness, of which 587 belong to centers belonging to the regional Administration and 3,449 correspond to subsidized centers.

The residence 'Christ of the Miners' of the Union offers integral attention to the basic personal, therapeutic and sociocultural needs of people with chronic mental illness affected by different degrees of dependency, promoting their autonomy.

People with a severe and prolonged mental illness present complex difficulties in the development of capacities related to basic aspects of daily life that negatively affect both their quality of life and their relationship with their family and coexistence.

"The Diagrama Foundation works on the specialized care, support and rehabilitation of these people, fostering their psychological and social integration, as well as representing an invaluable help for the families of those affected," the counselor explained.

The centers that serve people with mental illness have services and resources that promote the personal and social development of this group, paying special attention to their personal difficulties and needs and also including a support service for families.

The counselor stressed that "our main objective is to achieve the full development of skills and abilities, fostering greater personal autonomy and integration capacity within their community, which favors the increase of their quality of life."
