The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sports of the Murcia region has shown its commitment to further enhance the promotion of the two main tourist and cultural activities which has the municipality of La Union, the Foundation Cante de las Minas and Park mining by increasing its budgetary allocations in 2011.

The announcement was the mayor of La Union, Francisco Bernabé, after the meeting he had with the Minister of Culture and Tourism Murcia, Pedro Alberto Cruz, a meeting that highlighted the great harmony between the municipality and unionense Autonomous Region in these areas.

The Union Foundation launched this year Cante de Las Minas, with which it seeks to turn the town into the cultural capital of flamenco, 365 days a year through various initiatives such as the International Flamenco Congress, held in June and annually, and the Museo del Cante de las Minas, which opened in July.

Such initiatives seek to complete the large presence of the International Festival of Cante de las Minas, held in August its Golden Jubilee and will, shortly, with the Flamenco Art School, which not only provide formal education in singing, guitar playing and dance, but it will be official place of preparation to enter the Conservatory of Music and Dance in the Region.

For its part, the Mining Park of La Union, with 50,000 square meters, represents the recovery of eight former nineteenth-century mining sites that let you view "in situ" as they lived and worked for former miners of the Sierra de Cartagena, all an attraction that will be expanded next year with the addition of a coil, also of the nineteenth century.

This tourist attraction, which has received about 20,000 visitors in its first two months of opening, more than 8,000 in September, has already received two major awards at the national level, such as Santa Barbara prize, awarded by the Colleges of Engineering mines, and the award of the European business magazine Business World, which considers the Mining Park the most innovative initiative launched in the Region of Murcia in 2010.
