The photographer Antonio Meroņo unionense 'Jayam' today opened a solo exhibition on Holy Week Minera de La Union entitled "The Christ and the Mine", a collection of 25 photographs and photomontages of local processions and its protagonists, especially the Miners Christ in an intimate relationship with the Sierra Minera.
'The Lying on the lake', the 'loophole singing Charity ", the" Legion of Christ out of the mine Vicenta Groups' or 'La Dolorosa under Palio' are some snapshots of 50 by 40 cm that can be seen in Main Street No. 78, The Union until 24 April, two months after work began Meroņo announced this year's celebration of the Cross from the mine Groups Vicenta.
"When I learned that the Union is held for the first time a penitential procession from the mine to the Church of Rosario, came to my mind the religious and mineral mix that characterizes the unionense Easter, and I suggested to the Illustrious Brotherhood Stmo. Cristo de los Mineros create this exhibition extolling the cultural binomial as ours, "explains the author.
The proposal was widely accepted and today is part of the events scheduled in the calendar of Holy Week Minera, a sample that can be visited during office hours 11.00 to 13.00 and from 17.00 to 21.00, and will also have a worthy cause, because the images will go on sale and proceeds will benefit the victims of the earthquake in Japan.
"We must learn to distinguish ourselves from other expressions of the Holy Week," concludes Meroņo, "because the Way of the Cross with Christ out of the mine can not see anywhere else in the world, only in La Union, nor those elements miners and the hoods carbide miner's lamp or La Caridad, signs that we must empower themselves because they are attractive enough to be declared of National Tourist Interest.
