Students of the school Carmelites receive the prize The European Union 'Euroscola 2011' (26/05/2011)

The team of students 'La Ramona' del Colegio Nuestra Señora del Carmen de La Union, a center known as 'Carmelites', was the highest ranked of the five finalists in the Region of Murcia at the XVII edition of the 'Euroscola' , an initiative that has involved a total of forty-four young Murcia.

'Euroscola', organized by the European Parliament Office in Spain in collaboration with the European Commission Representation in Spain, through Injuve and youth organizations of different communities and the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla, is aimed at young people between 15 and 18 who are studying Secondary Education, Vocational School or Middle Grade.

The Minister of Presidency and Public Administrations in the Murcia region, María Pedro Reverte, the mayor of La Unión, Bernabe Francisco and the director general of Youth, Veronica Lopez, have presented the diplomas to students in 3 of the ESO participants from this school unionense, then highlighting the winning team with several special awards.

Also, the school received a batch of materials to work in the classroom the values ​​of solidarity and Caritas volunteer, a volunteer kit and a copy of the book 'Europe, a photo story' by Miguel Artola.

This initiative, which took place between February 14 and March 1, not only encouraged to learn another language to develop in Castilian and English, but also the use of new technologies, it consisted of an interactive Internet game two initial phases and eight individual and group tests, finals and a large number of tools that facilitated the task of the teams.

Among the tests that students made was drafting a letter in English by a volunteer who assisted in earthquake relief work in Haiti, an interview with an older person to learn how he spent his daily life or photograph different places city ​​that facilitate or, conversely, prevent the transit of persons with disabilities.

As explained by one of the teachers in charge of this group, Ginés Caparros, "when we discovered this contest we sense that our students certainly would be interested, not only because similar tests were carried out by the comics, but also to focus on voluntary because in this school work hard these securities since childhood. "

And in this year's contest Euroscola has coincided with the European Year of Volunteers 2011, which has offered a special prize for the top nine teams in the country, each Autonomous Community, consisting of participation in a Day Euroscola European Parliament in Strasbourg (France) and financial support to cover part of the trip.

El Colegio Nuestra Señora del Carmen was not the top nine, notwithstanding that "the boys have enjoyed a lot and have the satisfaction of having done well in a competition for students up to age 18, when they are between 14 and 15 years, so we are very proud of them and the other participants in this school, "said Caparros.

This is exactly what highlights some of the students, as José Antonio Angulo, who says "have enjoyed competing with people older than us", Daniel Garcia, who stresses his "joy of winning and to work as a team," or Mary Rosales, for whom the best has been "working together and show that the education we receive helps us to help those most in need."

The ten students from Our Lady of Mount Caramel College who have been winners of Euroscola 2011 in the Region have been Uroz Maria Rosales, Noelia Valverde Parra, Elena Abellán Martínez, Miriam Pérez Conesa, Daniel Garcia Manchon, José Antonio Cánovas Angulo, Alberto López Garcia, Alfonso Pedroza Perez, Elena García Martínez, and Pedro Conesa Pagan.

The other four regional teams that participated in the XVII edition of 'Euroscola', but have not been winners are 'Soups and company', 'The Cock', 'The pies' and' Invictus, college students also Our Lady del Carmen de La Union, who received the diploma attesting to their participation in the program.
