The Union re-live the great party of miners on Sunday, December 4, thanks to the recovery of the feast of St. Barbara, patron saint of mining, which has driven this year the City with the holding of several popular acts.

Among them include the Open Day at the Mining Museum and the commemoration of 25th anniversary of his inauguration, including tribute to Councillor culture that already launched its first director, Juan Jimenez and Santiago Guillen, respectively.

By mid-morning a beautiful Mass celebrated in honor of Minera Santa Barbara in the Church of the Rosary, which was an offering made by former miners and interpretations flamenco cante Encarnación Fernández and Antonio Munoz on guitar.

Thereafter, and under the strains of the national anthem, performed an emotional wreath at the Monument to Mining in Plaza Joaquín Costa, made in memory of all those who have played the hard work of mining, followed by shooting on the main street of a spectacular barrenazo.

The band of horns, drums and pipes of the Virgin of Sorrows, put the finishing touch with a Musical Parade through the center of town.

Our Mayor, Francisco Bernabé, has highlighted the wide following all activities have been developed and has already announced that from next year Santa Barbara will be a local holiday in the municipality on a permanent basis, thus seeking to recover the festival that historically has been the most important of our city for its close links with our mining roots.

Mining Wedding

And as a culmination of acts of Santa Barbara, a day later, on December 5, Mina Vicenta Groups hosted the first celebration in the history of a wedding in an ancient underground mining.

The link, for our neighbors Ascension starring Crespo and Jose Ruiz, has enjoyed wide media coverage, with the main national television networks and regional broadcasting the event, as well as radio, print and Internet, which has meant that several million Spanish people have had direct knowledge of the Mining Park of La Union and our main attraction.
