González Tovar asked the new government to meet commitments to the regeneration of Portman (16/12/2011)

The Government Office does not understand the question now posed by the mayor of La Union, the Minister of Public Works and a member of the PP on the continuity of the project

The delegate of the Government in the Region of Murcia, Rafael González Tovar, asks the reason why now the Minister of Public Works, Antonio Sevilla, PP deputy mayor Andres Ayala and La Union, Francisco Bernabé, put in issue in future regeneration project Portman Bay.

Tovar Gonzalez pointed out that the continuity of the project is secured and that the new government is only complete the project, and has asked the political will to fulfill the commitments that the Government of Spain has contracted.

For the Government Delegate is inexplicable to condition the project to the situation of the state's coffers, when they know that the Ministry of Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs is holding euro 79.4 million to continue the project in the PGE the next four years.

We also are aware that last summer already started adapting the works of St. Joseph the short amount of 800,000 euros (first phase of the project) and on 22 September, the Department of Sustainability of the Coast and Sea announced through the BOE, the tender award procedure of the rest of the project.

González Tovar, said that this process runs its normal course, hence now being valued the bids submitted by 11 companies to assign the contract, so it could soon begin the extraction phase and transfer to short 3 million tons to dump the ore.

The base budget for the award of this project is 79,402,304 euros and the deadline for the completion of the work, once awarded, is 36 months.

This credit was approved by the Council of Ministers, audited by the auditor and retained the credit by the Ministry ensuring 100% financing.

Therefore, the only thing pending is to know the percentage, between 30% and 70% of project funding which may be taken under the Cohesion Fund, which the Government would only have to contribute the remaining amount, which poses no problems because the credit is retained in its entirety.

The objective of the proposed regeneration and environmental soundness of Portman Bay is to solve the serious environmental problems in the area, as a result of years of discharges caused by mining in the area.
