The Union pays tribute to the municipal corporation of 1979 (19/04/2009)

A packed hall of the City of La Union has welcomed the tribute to the councilmen of the first municipal corporation incorporated after the restoration of democracy in Spain.

First, the City Council of Institutional Relations, Juana Sanchez, presented the event, giving the floor to the speakers of the three political groups that form the Municipal Corporation today: Carlos Martínez (Partido Popular), Mariano Oliver (Partido Socialista Spanish Workers), and José Haro (Izquierda Unida), who have claimed the role of local councils during the democratic transition.

For its part, the official chronicler of the Union, Francisco Rodenas, read the Memorandum of Association of the Municipal Corporation, 1979.

Finally, the Mayor of La Union, Francisco Bernabé, has given a plaque in tribute to the councilmen of the first Municipal Corporation in case of absence or death, their families and relatives.
