The Sierra Mining is declared a Cultural (06/05/2009)

By decree of 30 April, the Governing Council of the Autonomous Community of Murcia has been declared of Cultural Interest, classified as historical site, the Sierra Minera de Cartagena-La Union.

Demarcated as areas of cultural interest, classified as Historic Site, understand and include plots, real and personal property and defining elements of the sets, both public and private.

The enclosed area has been established according to criteria based on geographical features and visual impact of the mining aspects.

The Sierra Mining is one of the best exponents of the Mediterranean area to understand the historical evolution of mining and ore transformative processes, both in antiquity and in modern and contemporary.

The Mayor of La Union, Francisco Bernabé, has welcomed as "the Declaration of Cultural Interest redound positively on the important protection and conservation of existing heritage in our Sierra Minera.

The declaration said the Sierra Minera places of geological interest, mineralogical, in relation to volcanism, related to the tectonic, hydrological interest, archaeological, technological and industrial archaeological, historical, architectural and

ethnographic and environmental interest, scenic and tourism.

The areas declared of cultural interest are the following eight areas:

- Sector I: Set of Cerro de La Parreta of Alum.

- Sector II: Joint Rajao Cabezo.

- Sector III: The Joint heel Miner.

- Sector IV: Mining Set El Llano del Beal and The Beal.

- Sector V: Path of 33-Cuesta de Las Lajas.

- Sector VI: Rambla del Abenque and Head of the Galley.

- Sector VII: Head of Ponce, Eagle Rock and Mount of Ashes.

- Sector VIII: Sink Set Robert Portman.

The perimeter of the partial or complete protection of the mining concessions contained in the Declaration of Cultural Property, in addition to offices, power houses, towers, chimneys, sinks and other metal mining and infrastructure, as well as archaeological and and real property located within each sector.
