Begin a course entitled "Geological and Mining Heritage of the region of Cartagena-La Union Discusses ..." (13/07/2009)

The Councillor for Education, Julio Garcia, Vice Chancellor of University Extension of the UPCT, Francisco Martinez and Angel Iniesta, Directorate General of Fine Arts and Cultural Assets of the Region of Murcia, presided the opening of the course "Geological Heritage Mining and the region of Cartagena-La Union: Protection and enhancement "of the summer courses at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena.

The course aims to introduce students to the concepts of geological and mining heritage and raise awareness of the extraordinary importance of this heritage in the region and provide basic knowledge about the geology of the area and the origin and characteristics of mineral deposits and give an overview of the history of mining in the region, and the contribution of archeology to the knowledge of ancient mining and metallurgy.

We will examine the potential of this heritage as a source of cultural and environmental tourism, generating sustainable economic activity.

It will present the achievements and projects for enhancement of the Geological and Mining Heritage, both nationally and in the case of the mining Sierra of Cartagena-La Union.

The date of the course is 13 to 17 July from 9am to 14:00 in academic sessions and 8 to 13:30 pm at field days.

The duration is 30 hours and course directors, to be held in the Auditorium of the Casa del Pinon, are José Ignacio Manteca Martínez, Angel Iniesta Sanmartin and Antolinos Juan Antonio Marin.
