The Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Region of Murcia, Pedro Alberto Cruz, and the Mayor of La Union, Francisco Bernabé, presented this morning at the International Tourism Fair (FITUR), held in Madrid, the Park project Mining Union, which will open its doors to the public next June.

Mineral Park is a pioneering initiative in the recovery of historical heritage to its value as an attraction for tourist and cultural, because it means the recovery of a total of eight former nineteenth-century mining sites will allow us see "in situ" as they lived and worked for former miners of the Sierra de Cartagena - La Unión.

The complex occupies a total of 50,000 square meters in the foothills of the Sierra Minera and the same will have a mining train that moves to tourists throughout the different spaces that are intended to visit.

Specifically, the Park includes the rehabilitation and musealization known as Road 33, former gateway to the mining operations through the Sierra and links with Portman Union and the Mediterranean Sea, a kiln, a few magazines , a vein of tin ore in a laundry, a raft of mud and two mine, "Paul and Virginia", which has acted outside its facilities, and the spectacular "Group Vicenta" no doubt any one of the most powerful attraction to those who will have from now the region of Murcia.

The "Mina Groups Vicenta" dates back to 1869 and their recovery has become a unique and magical space, quite different as we are accustomed to behold.

Its more than four thousand square meters open to the public, more than eighty feet deep, making it one of the mines visited largest in Europe, along one of the most impressive and unique in its vaults for more than eight feet, its huge galleries, special columns and its underground lake red water due to the pyrite.

Mine has been the scene of several performances in last year's International Festival of Cante de las Minas de La Unión, flamenco event declared of International Tourist Interest, which this year celebrates its Golden Jubilee Festival Tomorrow is presented in Fitur with the performance of the final dance contest winner of the event, Ana Morales, and flamenco.

The Mining Park is an initiative led by the municipality of La Union and which construction began in summer 2007.

The entire project involved an investment of nearly three and a half million euros, which have been paid between the municipalities of La Union and Cartagena, the Autonomous Community of Murcia, through the concerted action of four Departments different, highlighting the special support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism to the project, and the Government of Spain, through the participation of two different ministries.
