The Park Mining award for most innovative initiative in the Region of Murcia (19/02/2010)

European Business World magazine has awarded the City of La Union annual prize for institutions under the draft Mining Park, considered the most innovative initiative that will launch in the Region of Murcia in 2010.

This is the thirteenth edition of the awards European Business World magazine, a national reference publications and most prestigious in the industry, gives a company and institution of each region.

The Mayor of La Union, Francisco Bernabé, has stated that "this recognition from this prestigious financial publication highlights the importance and future impact it will have on tourism in our city and region the implementation of the Mining Park."

Regional institutions awarded in previous years include the Regional Government, the Port Authority of Cartagena and the Technology Park of Fuente Alamo.

For its part, the business section have received this distinction Cajamurcia, Archena HEFAME and Spa, among others.

The award ceremony will take place on 2 March at a gala in Madrid.

The Minister for Science and Innovation, Cristina Garmendia, has been invited to chair the awards.

The great interest generated by the Mining Park of La Union has led to the award of the European business magazine Business World is now the second national recognition award received after the Santa Barbara, an award that the Association of Mining Engineers awarded based on work of rehabilitation and recovery of mining heritage.

UNION PARK MINING

Mineral Park is a pioneering initiative in the recovery of historical heritage to its value as an attractive tourist and cultural nature, because it means the recovery of a total of eight former mining sites of the nineteenth century that will see "in situ "as they lived and worked for former miners of the Sierra de Cartagena - La Unión.

The complex occupies a total of 50,000 square meters in the foothills of the Sierra Minera and the same will have a mining train that moves to tourists throughout the different spaces that are intended to visit.

Specifically, the Park provides for the rehabilitation and musealization of Road 33, former gateway to the mining operations through the Sierra and links with Portman Union and the Mediterranean Sea, a kiln, a few magazines, of a vein of tin ore in a laundry, a raft of sludge from the mine "Paul and Virginia", which has acted outside its facilities, and spectacular mine "Group Vicenta", undoubtedly one of the most powerful attraction to those who will have from now the region of Murcia.

The Mining Park is an initiative led by the municipality of La Union and which construction began in summer 2007.

The entire project involved an investment of nearly three and a half million euros, which have been paid between the municipalities of La Union and Cartagena, the Autonomous Community of Murcia, through the concerted action of four Departments different, highlighting the special support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism to the project, and the Government of Spain, through the participation of two different ministries.
