Contracted electrification work of the mining park of La Union (11/03/2010)

The cost of the project is € 97,000, of which the Ministry of Culture provides 60,000 euros and the Ministry of Universities, Research Enterprise and the 37,000 remaining.

It is envisaged that the work, which will start soon, completed early next summer, coinciding with the opening of the Mining Park of La Union.

Mineral Park is a pioneering initiative in the recovery of historical heritage to its value as an attractive tourist and cultural nature, because it means the recovery of a total of eight former mining sites of the nineteenth century that will see "in situ "as they lived and worked for former miners of the Sierra de Cartagena - La Unión.

The Mining Park complex occupies a total of 50,000 square meters in the foothills of the Sierra Minera and the same will have a mining train that moves to tourists throughout the different spaces that are intended to visit.

Specifically, the Park provides for the rehabilitation and musealization of Road 33, former gateway to the mining operations through the Sierra and links with Portman Union and the Mediterranean Sea, a kiln, a few magazines, of a vein of tin ore in a laundry, a raft of sludge from the mine "Paul and Virginia", which has acted outside its facilities, and spectacular mine "Group Vicenta", which over four thousand square meters open to the public, more than eighty feet deep, making it one of the mines visited largest in Europe.

The Mining Park is an initiative led by the municipality of La Union, whose construction began in summer 2007.

The entire project involved an investment of nearly three and a half million euros, which have been paid between the municipalities of La Union and Cartagena, the Autonomous Community of Murcia, through the concerted action of four Departments different, highlighting the special support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism to the project, and the Government of Spain, through the participation of two different ministries.

Miner Park The Union has already received two major awards at national level: the Santa Barbara Award, an award that the Association of Mining Engineers awarded based on the work of rehabilitation and recovery of the mining heritage, and the award of European business magazine Business World Mining Park considers the most innovative initiative will be launched in the Region of Murcia in 2010.
